Beatportal feature - Weekend Weapons
Los Angeles' Andy Caldwell is unafraid of the limelight. A permanent blip on the American house music radar, he has pushed the sound forwards, both in the underground as a former king of San Francisco's deep house scene (he was the goldenboy of OM Records and Naked Music for a while), and in the mainstream, where he has produced pop friendly house, won Grammys, and shared a stage with the late, great, James Brown.
As a classically trained pianist, trumpeter, songwriter, and producer, Caldwell's approach to house is very musical and song-based - quite different to the club-centric, beats heavy grooves that dominate much of the scene. This can be heard on his brand new album 'Obsession', which has its feet firmly in the pop world.
As a DJ, Andy plays over 100 gigs per year so we asked the pretty boy to share his current crop of Weekend Weapons.
