It's slightly embarrassing (yet obviously inspiring) when you click on a new (to you) artist's bio and it reads like the Domesday Book. Reams of information about releases and remixes you never caught up on, the fact that this guy has a decade-deep discography, runs his own dope little label and has releasEd Bangers under multiple aliases.

San Francisco's Brendan Angelides is that guy. Luckily his latest release on Warp "Lands & Bones" that feature's LA's chanteuse Swan (split with EPROM's "Hendt") is the gift that keeps giving, bringing his lush, bass heavy electronica as Eskmo (check out his sublime work as Welder) to the forefront. Deeper, bong hit, late night vibes to EPROM's laser club bangers. While you're at it there's his releases on Vertical Sound and Planet Mu, his Bibio remixes for Warp, a Brainfeeder mixtape and his Ancestor Media label too.

On Sunday March 7th, Surefire Productions proudly presents "an evening of live bass music" featuring the SF debut of Skull Disco co-founder and dubstep pioneer Shackleton. Shackleton is supporting his debut album Three EPs, released in late 2009 on the revered Perlon imprint. Alongside Shackleton is SF's fast rising producers Eskmo (Brendan Angelides) and EPROM (Sander Dennis) who are both making waves with their recent releases individually on Planet Mu and Surefire. Tonight they will be celebrating the release of their split 12" record "Hendt" (EPROM) b/w "Lands and Bones" Feat. Swan (Eskmo), coming out on the legendary Warp Records. Shackleton's maverick take on big bass lines and complex beats doesn't fit easily into categories and that's how it's going to stay. Shackleton has been carving out his own brand of eclecticism on Skull Disco releases with intricate, snaking percussion, hypnotic melodies, seriously deep bass lines and dubwise sensibilities. His unique take on bass music makes his tunes feel right at home from a dub techno set to dubstep. There's no wonder why The Wire magazine stated, "Shackleton's bass drops are huge, shoomping bolts of leaden mass - neither in tune nor out of it, they are simple…omnipresent." Shackleton's tunes can be found on the compilations Skull Disco Volume 1 and Skull Disco Volume 2, released in the U.S. by Rough Trade Records. SF is the last stop on Shackleton's debut World Tour. Catch this rare performance, because it's not often that the illusively talented artist gets out of the studio long enough to do a world tour.

Brendan Angelides is a San Francisco based electronic music producer who records and performs live as Eskmo. In the past five years he's released over a dozen singles and EPs while touring throughout North America and Europe. Angelides also runs the Ancestor label, which issued his "Hypercolor" and "Agnus Dei" singles in 2009 to positive reviews from numerous magazines, blogs and tastemakers. Ninja Tune recording artist and film composer Amon Tobin hailed his work as "some of the best production I've heard in recent times." Although club and radio DJs readily spin his music, Angelides always performs his Eskmo and Welder work live. His innovative, emotive on-stage performances utilize Ableton Live software with various MIDI controllers to manipulate keyboard work, effects, warping and cuing. EPROM is known for his diverse, funky and energetic sets, which cross the lines between live remixing and manipulation of hiphop and dubstep with his own obscenely bass-heavy neurocrunk transmissions. EPROM has played alongside artists like Flying Lotus, The Glitch Mob, Skream, Lazer Sword, Kode9, Mochipet, Rustie, and many others. He has worked with internationally renowned MCs and has slated multiple vinyl releases in the coming year. DJ supporters include Starkey, Jakes, Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob, Rustie, Megasoid, Zombie Disco Squad, Riton, Basement Jaxx, and BBC Radio One’s Mary Anne Hobbs.

Kush Arora's name has become synonymous with the term "dread bass." Dread bass is the sound of a post-dancehall world where MCs are confronted with the latest in cultural-styled electronic riddims. Kush Arora has seen the dread bass sound evolve for the past ten years, and has solidified his spot in the dub community, with his signature style of Punjabi roots combined with a curious case for punk and industrial sounds. Angelides takes us to the top of his playlist, obsesses over Les Claypool, eats his way through San Francisco, and receives an odd conical gift from fans. XLR8R: What's the weirdest story you have ever heard about yourself?
Brendan Angelides: Having someone personally tell me about an amazing set I did at an event I never played at.

What are the top three most played songs on your iTunes?

What band did you want to be in when you were 15?
Primus. I used to be obsessed with Les Claypool.

Edinburgh, Scotland.

What is your favorite studio toy?
A Detective Dunny, given to me by a sweet lady.

Where do you take out-of-towners to eat in San Francisco to impress them?
Oh, man. Arizmendi Bakery (scones), Marnee Thai (golden triangles), Chez Maman (très le oooh), Just For You (breakfast all day), Monk's Kettle (fine beers), Mandalay (Burmese)… I could keep on going.

What is your favorite item of clothing?
Creative Rec shoes. I'm a big fan.

If you could have any superhero power, what would it be?
I can already fly, so the power to plant seeds anywhere, everywhere, however.

What color is your music?
I try to hit all the colors for different reasons. Some songs definitely have a specific tone in mind, while others blend a few of them. Better that way (in my own opinion).

For what sorts of things did you always get in trouble when you were little?
Drawing in class; not paying attention; jumping off the swings; sneaking in extra minutes of Nintendo at home.

If someone were to translate your most recent album into a painting, would it fall most closely under cubism, surrealism, impressionism, expressionism, or realism?

Surrealism and Expressionism combined.

What was the last movie you saw?

Goodbye Solo. Great flick!

There will be holographic movie theaters.

Best decision you've made in the last year?
I couldn't even say honestly. It's all good.

What's next?
My first single on Warp is coming out in early 2010, with my friend Swan doing vocals. On the A side is my good friend EPROM. Very soon a new mix of mine--I usually do one a year--is being featured on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder site. [I'm] finishing up some music with Amon Tobin. Some more tour dates are being planned in the states and Europe. [I'm] working on an album. More unnamed remixes and collabs coming along the way. Meet Tom Waits, play in Japan, fall in love all over again.

"Brendan Angelides, aka "Eskmo" & "Welder", is a San Francisco based producer & live performer. He currently has releases on Warp Records, Planet Mu and Ancestor.

He has been producing and performing live electronic music since 1999. His live sets under both monikers are currently based around Ableton Live utilizing various midi controllers with on the spot warping, queing and key work. He has covered numerous styles throughout the years and it has grown to a fusion of thick, floor-creaking bass layered with rich, oozing melodies and syncopated rhythms.

Brendan has been featured in numerous publications such as Pitchfork, URB, DJMAG and XLR8R and on such shows as BBC Radio 1 and RinseFM. He has performed throughout the UK, into Spain, France and Canada. Aside from international bookings, he has performed in clubs, at theaters and at festivals in major cities across the US. He has shared the stage with notable acts such as Amon Tobin, STS9, Flying Lotus, Scuba, The Glitch Mob, Si Begg, Tipper and others.

In 2009, after years of releasing on various dance labels, Brendan started his own fully distributed digital label entitled "Ancestor". The label was created to release his works and collaborative projects of all styles.
