Harrogate DJ duo launch new dance music night

A YOUNG DJ duo are launching a kicking new music night called Kill The Rhythm in a bid to give Harrogate an alternative to cliched club nights.
With contacts among the best producers and DJs in the UK, Lee Dunn and Chris Petty, aka Youth Attack, aim to provide an upbeat electronic night at Rehab which will be accessible, varied and cutting edge – while giving a wide berth to two obvious pitfalls in this town - populist or snobby.
Fresh
The first event on Thursday, April 2, will star Youth Attack themselves, who have recently been responsible for an array of brilliant remixes for the likes of Late Of The Pier, Shadow Dancer, The Human League, Foals and The Ting Tings.
Says Lee, in his early 20s, who went to Rossett School in Harrogate, but now DJs round the country with Youth Attack: "We're not trying to put the idea of 'cool' in your face, we're not trying to build a clique of hipsters and scenesters.
"We're trying to do something new and fresh."
Guest DJs
Such is the duo's commitment to music, entry will be free at Rehab on the Kill The Rhythm night which has guest DJ sets in the pipeline from the likes of Foamo, Heads UP, Ocelot and Andy George for what is hoped to become a monthly night.
Youth Attack have made a rapid rise through the club music and remix ranks, perhaps because of their versatility and youthful energy.
"Our inspirations come from a lot of different areas of dance music - disco, French electronic with its cut-up samples, techno, Chicago House. We play anything, as long as it's good and not tosh."
Hip
Youth Attack must be doing something right, already receiving serious industry backing nationally and closer to home.
Hip Leeds indie label Bad Sneakers described mssrs Dunn and Petty thus: "Youth Attack are the gnarliest young upcoming producers and remixes, their history of house party madness is the stuff of legend."
l The first Kill The Rhythm club night will run at Rehab on Thursday, April 2 from 10pm to 4am.
